Havelberg: Location and surroundings of this property

The Hanseatic town of Havelberg in the district of Stendal, also known as the "cathedral and island town", looks back on centuries of history. St Mary's Cathedral, the town's landmark, is enthroned on the Romantic Road. It was consecrated in 1170 as a Romanesque basilica and is home to one of the few remaining complete monastery complexes from the Middle Ages. The wide range of leisure activities on offer attracts many families and visitors to the town, which delights visitors with its picturesque landscape and proximity to the water. Cyclists, water sports enthusiasts and hikers are offered a wide range of sporting activities here. In 2015, the Federal Horticultural Show embellished the state-recognised recreation area and greened the old town island in particular. In addition to the cathedral, the small town has a number of buildings and facilities worth seeing. These include the Prignitz Museum at the cathedral, the cemetery of honour at Platz des Friedens and the historic St. Anne's Chapel. The Elbe and Havel rivers merge in Havelberg. They are connected by the "Elbe-Havel Connecting Canal". Federal road 107 runs through Havelberg, which joins federal road 5 after a few kilometres. From Glöwen railway station, which is around eight kilometres from Havelberg, a regional express train runs every hour in the direction of Wittenberge and Berlin.
